An Awful Teacher
I am reminded weekly of what an awful teacher I am. Today I had a parent march into my classroom a few minutes after the bell rang and told me she wanted to observe her student in our morning routine, she was asked to leave because it is district policy. As the day progressed she told my boss that I am rude and told me the same thing when I spent half an hour on the phone with her. While on the phone we also discussed how the class sizes are too large and the classrooms are too small, (all things that I have complete control over). Some days I cannot do anything right! The good news is tomorrow is a new day.

True many times parents might misunderstand what we are saying especially when the communicator is a five or six year old child. Each person must remember they are hearing the perception of a child. My favorite angry student was Adam-- when I told Adam to wait a little bit (since he cut in line of everyone else) He stomped back to his seat and proceeded to make a scene at his desk, when I finally walked over to him and asked what was wrong, he promptly started yelling at me, "You can't call me a little bit!! I am a big boy!" My mom is going to be mad at you for calling me names." So you see miscommunication is always possible it depends on what one WANTs to hear sometimes. Just keep your beautiful smile and chin up--everything has a way of working out! I think you are a wonderful teacher-- so does my son!
ReplyDeleteOur district has a totally different policy. We can be in the rooms anytime as long as we ask the teacher first. How funny.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you weren't rude, just not compliant with her wishes. That's different.
